UPDATED: August 24, 2012 08:08 am
The August 20-23 ACS Energy and Fuels Division hosted a special symposium to honor Dr. Umit Ozkan, who received the 2012 Distinguished Researcher Award from the ACS Division in June 2012. The Symposium included seven sessions and 42 invited talks and took place at the ACS meeting in Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Dr. Ozkan’s award and subsequent symposium honor is based on her impressive record of achievements in research, in teaching and advising students, and in service and leadership. Dr. Ozkan is an expert in heterogeneous catalysis, catalytic materials and their applications in industrially relevant reactions, including energy and emission control. She has made significant contributions to the area of oxidation catalysis, reduction of NOx emissions from stationary combustion sources, fuel reformulation and electrocatalyst development for fuel cells.
Dr. Ozkan has also made significant impact as a leader in academic research administration and in many professional societies. She has published more than 150 technical papers and edited seven books on energy and environmental catalysis. She has been invited to present lectures 125 times in 25 different countries, which reflects the reach of her outstanding research. Dr. Ozkan has participated in all aspects of the ACS Energy and Fuels Division, from serving on the Program Committee to serving as president, and continues to be active in the division.
