Dear Reader,
This site contains nostalgic writings about Istanbul and Turkey.
When I first started writing about these subjects in 1992, I had named the article: "Gazoz Kapagi", which translates to "bottle cap".I had named it bottle cap, because it was an easy to read subject with very little substance.Just open the cap, read it and after a while all the fizz was gone. My friends in Columbus liked the name and the article, so I continued writing and adding nostalgic content about, Istanbul, the Aegean and finally soccer, under the heading "Seref Stadi"(Seref Stadium).
Turkish is my native language, hence most articles were initially written in Turkish. However later on we have also added a section for the English reader.
When I was a little kid in Turkey in the Fifties, the children used to collect soda bottle caps and play games similar to games played with marbles. I started with one bottle cap in 1992 and in 1996 ended up with a collection of "Gazoz Kapaklari , including the "Photos" section.
As the years passed we kept adding new sections to the site; Istanbul Myths, Istanbul and Turkey Videos, Old Istanbul songs and Turkish Music, Soccer, Turkish Food, Travel to name a few. At this point in our journey we realized that the name "Gazoz Kapagi" was not reflecting the true contents of the site. We came up with the new name" Istanbullite" which is not only a synonym for an Istanbullian but also reflects the sites shedding light on Istanbul ( Istanbul-lite).
I hope you our dear reader will like all these improvements.
Enjoy surfing Istanbullite.
